On the lane

The lane list, written without brochure fog

Three visits the Hancock desk actually puts on the book. The longer list is on the exams page.

Comprehensive eye exam

History, refraction, and a prescription you can read before anyone mentions a frame.

Contact lens fitting

A lens that sits on the eye you actually have, plus the wear hours we expect you to keep.

Everyday glasses

Frame choice happens after the numbers, at the same Hancock address, not in a separate mall stop.

  • Exam and optical share one address
  • Callbacks use the number you type
  • A Quincy desk, not a walk-up kiosk
Why the lane

A full refraction versus a frame-only stop

What the lane includes

  • How vision changed since the last pair
  • A refraction you can ask us to repeat
  • A prescription you leave with, on paper

What a frame-only stop skips

  • No history of headaches or blur
  • No check with both eyes together
  • A guess copied from the old pair
Pacing

Three beats before you stand up

01 · Listen

What failed last

Blur at the dashboard, tired reading, a pair that never sat right. We write that down first.

02 · Measure

One eye, then both

The phoropter stays up until the line is stable. We do not rush the second eye to match the first.

03 · Write

Prescription, then frames

You get the numbers. Frames are optional the same day, and only after the paper is done.

The numbers

What the phoropter is actually deciding

We say the result in plain words before you leave the chair. The slip still uses the usual shorthand.

Sphere
How much plus or minus the eye needs to bring a distant line into focus.
Cylinder
The extra power, and its angle, when the eye is not evenly curved.
Near add
The extra plus for reading, written only when near work is the complaint.
Optical

Frames after the numbers, not instead of them

The optical is in the same Hancock Street practice. You can look at frames once the prescription is written, or take the paper and decide later.

We do not start with a style wall and backfill an exam. The measurement comes first.

Leave the number the desk should dial

The screen shows a thank-you line after you send it. The desk calls that number from Hancock Street.
